The fight with no end?
by Barbora Misakova
In the business world everything is possible. In the cases when we think everything is lost, someone came and we are saved. Someone lends us money or just became a shareholder and our firm with all its clients and equity is saved somehow. But there are also cases when the right opposite happens. The best example is an acquisition of Yahoo by the software giant Microsoft, Corp. After very long discussions and speculations about Microsoft and Yahoo it looks like the fight should have the end. Yahoo and Microsoft had different conditions and that's why it looks like the business which fills the newspapers around the world for lot of months has no winner. The last news are saying about the end of all talks between these two companies and what is more it looks like a third one – Google, Inc. should become another player. After the first Microsoft's offer to Yahoo – 40 percent gain, Yahoo wanted another 10 percent. Some analysts and independent observers think that the first offer was the best one which could came for Yahoo. Instead of taking it, Yahoo was just like a greedy fly. Even the last offer of $33 per share was not good enough for them. Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang asked even more - $37 per share. I don't know how about you, but for me it smells like never ending prevarication. As soon as Microsoft gives a new offer, Yahoo changes it opinion and wants more. As it seems Yahoo has problems not only with Microsoft, but even bigger problems are with own shareholders. Especially one activist investor is making troubles – Carl Icahn. His attention was to sell shares to Microsoft after the first offer. Unfortunately for him, this didn't happen. On the contrary Yahoo asked more. After failure they tried to revive its last offer of $47.5 billion, but Microsoft is not interested anymore. Not for such a high price. The most important for Yahoo now is to find a way how to get out of its problems on the stock where their shares dropped 10.1 percent. Will a good patron came this time? And who will it be? Yahoo believes it could be a Google. Well, lets see what happen.
